We can’t be a great landlord and deliver great customer service without our 2,000 talented, committed employees. Our people strategy aims to create a culture where inspiring people live our values and perform at the best they can and realise their potential.
We have a great apprentice programme, an innovative scheme which attracts adult learners, and a real success has been our Women in Trades programme. We currently employ 22 female employees (3.4%) in manual trade roles up from 18 females (3%) this time last year, against our aspirational target of 5% by 2021 and a UK average of 1%.
We’re extremely proud to hold ‘Investors in People’ gold standard, placing us in the top 7% of employers in the United Kingdom. We achieved this because we help our people develop not only in their roles, but also with their career ambitions through programmes like ‘Aspire’ which supports people into management roles.
Our most recent survey of our employees saw 80% of respondents say what they feel and think about working at Sovereign, with a positive engagement rate of 67% against the national average of 60%. And our October 2019 employee engagement survey showed scores of over 80% when people were asked about fair treatment and ‘ability to be myself’.
We’re committed to promoting equality of opportunity and creating a working environment that is inclusive and free from discrimination or harassment and our EDI policy and strategy support this. As we move forward with our commitments to diversity at Sovereign, we’ll strive to become a landlord and employer of choice with a customer base and workforce which is reflective of the communities in which we operate.
Our goal is to be an employer of choice - and to help us become one we provide support, development and opportunity for all, together with a competitive and flexible rewards package. But, above all we like to enjoy our work, have some fun and celebrate success.
