Sovereign keeps 4Legs Radio community chatting
Sovereign Housing Association will sponsor Lambourne Valley-based 4Legs Radio, to help the local community radio station keep on chatting for the next 12 months.
The funding will help the station with plans to expand its activities within the local community, including offering young people and Sovereign residents who are keen to gain work experience in a media environment, the chance to present their own show.
Heard in towns like Abingdon, Lambourn, Great Shefford, Wantage, Hungerford and Newbury - which are also locations where Sovereign has homes - the station offers a friendly, approachable platform for those who want to come and spread the word about activities and events going on in their area.
Jennifer Bowley, Sovereign community development officer for Berkshire and Oxfordshire, who appeared live on 4Legs to make the sponsorship announcement, said: “Local radio offers us an excellent medium to talk to different audiences across our community. We want people to be proud of where they live, and we want our communities to flourish as people get to know each other and feel confident that they can work with us to achieve their aims.
“We want people across the Lambourne Valley and beyond to know that they can ask us for support if they need it to get a specific project off the ground. It could be creating a group to work on traffic safety, or keeping an area tidy or revamping a play park – anything that a local community wants to achieve. We are also launching a ‘community assets fund’ for groups that are already established to tap into, via a platform called The Good Exchange.
“Being able to talk about what we do via 4Legs Radio adds another great method of communication to the ways that we get in touch with people.”
Chris Capel from 4Legs Radio, said: “Sovereign’s sponsorship means so much to this station. It’ll help us take the first steps in our plans to expand, as we seek to support more members of the community and bring people together by providing local information and promoting relevant causes, initiatives and events.”
