Sovereign supports a hunger free future

Sovereign Housing Association is supporting the Trussell Trust charity and the national ‘More Than Homes’ campaign that aims to put food on the table for vulnerable people throughout the UK.

The Salisbury based charity works with 1200 food banks throughout the country, providing emergency food and support to people locked in poverty.

Between April 2019 and March 2020, food banks in the network provided a record 1.9 million food supplies to people in crisis, an 18% increase on the previous year.

The current pandemic has seen more and more people in need of the basics and between April 1 and September 30 this year 2,600 emergency food parcels - containing at least three days’ worth of nutritionally-balanced meals - were provided for children everyday by food banks in the Trussell Trust network.

Sovereign has funded the ‘More Than Homes’ campaign with a donation of £15k - a campaign led by Accent Housing, with backing from the National Housing Federation, Chartered Institute of Housing and the Northern Housing Consortium, that aims to raise funds for Trussell Trust as they respond to this continued increase in demand.

Sovereign’s donation to the campaign is part of a wider support plan to help vulnerable residents throughout Sovereign’s communities.

A £3m investment in the recently released Thriving Communities Strategy, sees a series of initiatives rolled out to improve residents’ lives.

This includes a community grants programme, a fuel voucher scheme, activity packs for socially isolated older people, as well as employment and training support.
