Smashing new flats on bottle factory site

24 July 2019

A former bottle factory has made way for 29 affordable homes, built thanks to a £4m investment by Sovereign and £1.1m Homes England grant, with close partnership working between Sovereign, South Gloucestershire Council and developers E G Carter & Co Ltd.

Residents have already started moving into the 19 shared ownership two-bed flats and 10 shared ownership one-bed flats, which completed in the spring. Built by E G Carter & Co Ltd on Cecil Road, the new homes are just a stone’s throw from Kingswood High Street, Bristol.

James Gibson, Development Director, Sovereign, said: “Sovereign is really pleased to work in partnership with E G Carter and South Gloucestershire Council to deliver these much-needed homes. The first residents have already started moving into the 29 shared ownership flats. It was great to be able to meet some of the new residents and to see our development already turning into a community.”

Corinne Moore, Land and Planning Manager, James Gibson, Development Director, and Owen Thornton, Development Manager all from Sovereign, met with Councillor Ben Stokes, from South Gloucestershire Council and E G Carter & Co Ltd’s Phillip Barnes, Associate Director, Stuart Durrans, Contracts Manager and Mark Dix, Construction Manager to take a peek at these new properties and celebrate the completion on site.

Cllr Ben Stokes, South Gloucestershire Council Cabinet Member for Adults and Public Health, said: “I am delighted that individuals and families are already moving into these new flats, in the heart of Kingswood where we know there is a need for affordable homes close to the high street, to where people work and to the transport infrastructure that they need.

“We are committed to increasing the amount of affordable housing right across South Gloucestershire and working with partners like Sovereign is proving to be a great way to deliver the homes people need so they can benefit from the fact that this is such a great place to live and work.”

Phil Barnes, Associate Director at E G Carter & Co Ltd, said: “We are delighted to have delivered another successful land led affordable housing development with Sovereign”
