Local pupil names sought-after Newbury development Cherry Blossom Meadows
13th March 2019
A 10-year-old girl has won a school-wide competition to name David Wilson Homes’ upcoming development in Newbury.
Lily Braidwood, a creative pupil from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, chose the name of the new development which is now being proudly introduced as Cherry Blossom Meadows.
The five star homebuilder enlisted the help of the local school children to name the development located on Hutton Close, which is a joint venture with housing association Sovereign.
After receiving a variety of inventive naming suggestions, David Wilson Homes chose Lily as the competition winner and presented her with a £50 book token as a thank you gift.
Lily will soon be invited to Cherry Blossom Meadows for a guided tour of the site, in addition to seeing her winning name written on all of the development’s signs and promotional material.
When deciding on their naming suggestions, the pupils were encouraged to consider the local area, most notably the history of Newbury and its villages, landmarks and famous figures.
Rob Allen, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes Southern, said: “When naming our new development in Newbury, we turned to the pupils at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School for their inspiration.
“We’re now please to announce that we’ll be calling the development Cherry Blossom Meadows, thanks to Lily’s wonderful suggestion.
“At David Wilson Homes we strive to ensure we provide more than just quality new properties, and competitions such as these help to include current members of the community in the homebuilding process.”
Roger Keeling, Strategic Asset Management Director, Sovereign said: “We’re really pleased to be working with David Wilson Homes on this prime town centre location, providing 80 new quality homes for Newbury.”
Demolition work to the site is now underway.
