We're investing in our communities

The Communities team at Sovereign offer support to co-create and deliver sustainable resident-led solutions in our communities.

Everything we do is designed to improve the wellbeing and quality of life of our residents individually, and to contribute to developing thriving and resilient communities collaboratively.

We work on an asset-based community development approach, building on strength and potential. Every community is unique, and all our work is shaped by the needs and aspirations of local people, ensuring our customers are at the heart of our homes and communities.

Our objective is to support the development of successful and sustainable communities in the areas where we operate by:

  • Investing in the delivery of community-led programmes, projects and facilities that address the aspirations of our customers.
  • Working in partnership to develop the capacity of communities to deliver and manage community-led projects.
  • Building strong partnerships and supporting the third sector to grow capacity and to deliver services in our communities
  • Providing access to Sovereign’s internal expertise and linking contractor social value commitments back directly to community groups.

The Centre for Excellence in Community Investment champions and celebrates the importance and impact of community investment across the UK. Sovereign are a lead sponsor of the centre and regularly share best practice, blogs and host seminars though it.

We measure the social value of our work and know that investing in communities enables meaningful change for our residents and communities. to help us understand the impact of this, we use the wellbeing calculator from the Housing Associations’ Charitable Trust (HACT). In 2021/22 we will aim to deliver £15 million in social value.
