Everyone deserves a warm, cosy home

Upgrading you to an air source heat pump

We can help you use less energy and keep your home warmer – by replacing your storage heaters or solid fuel heating with an air source heat pump (ASHP) system.

You may have already been contacted by us about replacing your heating system and we hope that the information below will help you understand more about this.

Why are we replacing old heating systems?

Improving our existing homes by replacing older, inefficient fossil fuel heating systems with greener ones – like ASHP systems, is one key part of our Strategic Asset Management strategy. It will also make a major contribution to us meeting our new Homes and Place standards for current properties.

The wider impact is delivering warmer homes which are cheaper for our customers to run. It also supports our climate change aspirations - making sure that all our homes are ‘net zero’ for carbon emissions by 2050.

What are the key benefits of an ASHP system?

It's a modern and reliable heating system that:

  • keeps your home warmer
  • uses less energy
  • is better for the environment
  • is easy to control and adjust.

How does an ASHP heating system work?

Infographic of how an air source heat pump system works

1  The air source heat pump takes in heat from the outside air

2 Using electricity and a compressor, heat from the air is absorbed into a fluid, warmed and released at a higher temperature

3 Heat is then sent to radiators, and any remaining heat is stored in the hot water cylinder

4 Stored hot water can be used for showers, baths and taps.

What will happen before your installation?

We'll arrange to visit you at home - one of our qualified surveyors will assess how long it will take to install your ASHP system, and what materials we’ll need.

You'll discover more about the heating system - our surveyor will check all the rooms in your home, and explain where the ASHP unit, cylinder and radiators will be fitted.

We'll arrange a suitable time for installation - together we’ll arrange a date for your new heating system to be installed. If you need to rearrange your installation date, you can contact us.

Two days before the installation - please turn off your night storage heaters (if you have these). We can provide you with temporary heaters if you need them, to keep you warm until after your new system is up and running.

Savings will depend on the type of heating you currently have installed and how much you have previously paid for your heating.
