Why do I need it?
Sovereign covers the building insurance for your home, but we don’t insure your personal belongings and home contents. This is your responsibility.
While home contents insurance isn’t compulsory, it’s a good idea to consider what a policy would cover you for. It can help protect your belongings from risks like fire, theft, water damage, and many more household risks - giving you peace of mind.
What should I look for?
It's always a good idea to shop around for a policy that will give you the cover you need. And we suggest that you look for providers who are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
To help you decide whether home contents insurance is right for you, we have teamed up with Thistle Tenant Risks, and Great Lakes Insurance UK Limited, who offer the My Home Contents Insurance Scheme - specially designed for residents in social housing. All Sovereign residents are eligible to apply.

The My Home Contents Insurance Scheme
- Covers a range of items - such as furniture, carpets, curtains, clothes, bedding, electrical items, pictures and ornaments.
- No need to change the locks - there are no minimum property security requirements, as long as your outside doors lock, this is fine.
- The cover is new for old - with no deductions for wear and tear (except for clothing and linen)
- There's no excess to pay - you won’t have to fork out when you make a claim.
- New! You can now also buy your home contents policy online when you pay monthly via direct debit.

Now available online via direct debit - visit www.thistlemyhome.co.uk to purchase your policy and set up monthly direct debit payments for added convenience. (A 4.6% transaction fee applies.)
Other payment methods are available, like fortnightly or monthly cash payments via swipe card (46p transaction fee applies), or credit/debit card.
