Where could a career with us take you?

There are so many development opportunities available to you when you start working with us. How do these sound?

  • Variety of in-house training available to book through our Achieve portal
  • Housing Diversity Network mentoring scheme
  • Aspire Leadership & Management ILM accredited scheme
  • Shadowing other parts of the business
  • Our own Chartered Institute of Housing qualification
  • Regular 121s with your manager, with a key focus around personal development

And these are just a few examples. We care about our people and want to grow our own, so we're always open to hearing how you want to develop and what we can do to get you there.

Here's how some of our people have developed since they joined us:

Sam, Head of Digital Customer Technologies

Sam

Head of Customer Digital Technologies

I joined Sovereign in early 2013, working as an advisor in the Contact Centre. This position gave me a good grounding of Sovereign's purpose and what we offer our customers.

During my time there I took the opportunity to be part of a Business Improvement project. This then led me to join the Business Improvement team, working with operational teams to optimise their ways of working.

After a year in this role, I joined our IT department as an IT project manager. This is where I really discovered my passion for IT enabled organisational change. The main highlight within this role was leading a large and complex system rationalisation project.

After this I was appointed IT Business Change Project Manager where I took responsibility for the IT deliverables of our merger.

After three and a half years in this role, I moved in my current position, Head of Digital Technology Services. In this role I am accountable for a £5 million digital transformation programme, encompassing the continuous development of our customer portal, roll out of our CRM and an omni-channel contact centre platform.

I've been at Sovereign for almost eight years and I believe the main reason for this is that I've always felt my skills, experience and career aspirations are valued.

Contract Manager Hannah

Hannah

Contract Manager

I started seven years ago but have been within Property Services for six years. I knew I wanted to get back into maintenance, so I could expand my knowledge and make a difference to our residents.

I started as an asset investment officer and then undertook my HNC in Construction and The Built Environment to further my career. This was funded through a bursary and the Learning and Development team.

I then moved into a trainee contract manager role. I gained a distinction in my HNC and had the opportunity to go for a contract manager role. I was successful and this has led me to expand my knowledge in a number of maintenance related areas and continue to develop my career.

My manager and team have been very supportive in my development and I've enjoyed every step.

Project Manager James

Area Project Manager

Since joining in 2003, I've enjoyed success in progressing my career. From carpenter onto contract supervision, project management and now, to the position of area project manager for south property operations.

The initial move in 2009 from site works to the office environment was a challenge but fortunately I gain just as much satisfaction from the project management side and I'm glad I took that leap.

Sovereign's ethos, leading Learning and Development department and mentors are a credit. It's a great example to other organisations.

The encouragement and development offered helps employees to fulfil their potential and the result is an enriched organisation.
