Gordon Holdcroft

Former council chief appointed Sovereign's new chair

Date: 31 July 2017

Gordon Holdcroft, former chief executive at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, has been appointed Chair of the Board at Sovereign Housing Association.

Gordon spent 21 years at the council, with five years as chief executive until 2007, and brings extensive experience of both public and private sectors at Board level.

As the former vice-chair of the Newbury-based housing association, he was appointed as chair on 20 July, taking over from Katherine Innes Ker.

He will oversee Sovereign’s ambitious plans to build 1,500 new homes a year as well as continuing to provide quality homes and services for residents.

Of his appointment, Gordon said: “I’m pleased to take on the challenge as the new chair of Sovereign. It’s a business I know well and takes its social purpose seriously, working to build and provide affordable homes for people to put down roots and achieve their aspirations.

“As well as building new homes, we’ll continue to invest in our current homes too and offering extra help, such as employment and training support, where it’s needed. We can’t do all this alone however, and we can only make a real and lasting difference for our communities by working closely with trusted partners, especially our local authority colleagues.”

Sovereign, with 56,000 homes across the south and south west, is the sixth largest housing association in the country.

Ann Santry, Sovereign’s Chief Executive, said: “Gordon brings huge experience, understands the importance of affordable housing and has a thoughtful, collaborative style that will make sure Sovereign continues to build homes and provide a good service to our residents and communities. I look forward to working closely with him in the years ahead.”
