Newbury Racecourse development

More homes for local residents in Berkshire

Date: 27 March 2018

Newbury residents are ready to move into a new home as Sovereign Housing Association takes ownership of its final block of 35 apartments in the central area of the Racecourse.

The one and two-bedroom apartments at Whatcombe House, built by David Wilson Homes and Midgard, are all available for social rent and take the number of homes Sovereign manages on the development to 237.

Priority for the new homes will be given to residents already living in the town or with a local connection and all of the apartments have now been allocated.

Ben Denton, Executive Director Development, Sovereign said: “Working with David Wilson Homes and Midgard at the Racecourse has been a pleasure from start to end, and we’ve been very impressed with the extremely high quality of the finished apartments.

“I’m sure our residents will be proud to call these new apartments home, and we look forward to giving them the keys in the next few weeks.”

Following a visit by the National House Building Council (NHBC), they remarked how impressive the development and build quality was.

The racecourse development is the second successful partnership between Sovereign and David Wilson Homes in Newbury, who entered an agreement in 2014 to deliver and manage the affordable homes on the 1,500-home development.

Sovereign worked with David Wilson Homes on the regeneration at Kersey Crescent and recently secured planning to transform Hutton Close.

Paul Crispin, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Southern, said: “Our flagship Newbury Racecourse development is continuing to bring much-needed quality built homes to the area for a variety of different homebuyers.

“We are delighted yet again to be working with Sovereign and look forward to the future of this project.”

As well as providing quality, affordable homes, Sovereign invests in the community and their residents too.

This has included working with the contractors and suppliers to create work and career opportunities for our residents.

New residents will be invited to attend a pre-tenancy workshop where they will learn more about living at the racecourse. It will also be an opportunity to meet our Tenancy Support Advisor so we can start supporting residents immediately.
