Cecil Road ground breaking

Breaking ground instead of making glass

Date: 27 April 2018

On Tuesday 24 April 2018, Sovereign and E G Carter & Co Ltd celebrated with a ground-breaking event at the new Cecil Road project in Kingswood. The former bottle factory was demolished to make way for the construction of 29 shared ownership homes, consisting of 19 two-bed flats and 10 one bed flats.

Councillor Erica Williams, from South Gloucestershire Council and Corinne Moore, Commercial Development Manager for Sovereign, had the honour of using the E G Carter & Co Ltd ceremonial spade to officially break the ground and celebrate the start of construction.

Cllr Erica Williams, Cabinet Member responsible for housing delivery at South Gloucestershire Council, said: “I was delighted to attend the ground-breaking ceremony at the Cecil Road site which will provide a number of affordable housing units once complete.”

Corinne said: “Sovereign is really pleased that work has started on the Cecil Road site to deliver 29 much-needed, shared ownership flats, just a stone’s throw from Kingswood High Street. We have worked successfully with both E G Carter and South Gloucestershire Council over the last few years to deliver a number of affordable housing developments in the area and we’re looking forward to progressing this project.”

Phillip Barnes, Housing Manager at E G Carter & Co Ltd said “Having worked collaboratively with Sovereign to purchase the site and secure planning permission, we are excited to have finally commenced the construction of these 29 new homes.”

The E G Carter & Co Ltd Construction Team were joined by Sovereign Housing Association and South Gloucestershire Council. The new homes will be completed in April 2019.
