Evacuation Policy

Stay put

If the fire is in your flat the priority is to get everyone out and call 999. Do not try to fight the fire, and close doors behind you.

If the fire is in another part of the building you are usually safer staying in your own flat, unless heat or smoke is affecting you. If the fire is in a direct neighbour’s flat leave if you wish to and feel it is safe to do so.

Please see the fire notices and building safety records in your building for further information.

Hampshire Fire And Rescue Service has also produced a useful leaflet about High Rise Living [adobe pdf / 2 MB].

Means of escape

The best escape route is usually the normal way in and out of your home. There is one route out of your building:

  • the enclosed stairwell that leads to the ground floor

Do not use the lift.
