New charter will take tough stance on stamping out hate crime in Barton Hill

The Landlords Forum recently launched a new Hate Crime Charter in January to try and stamp out this criminal offence across Bristol.

The Landlords Forum recently launched a new Hate Crime Charter in January to try and stamp out this criminal offence across Bristol.

The Landlords Forum is made up of Sovereign Housing Association, other housing associations and Bristol City Council who have homes in the area supported by Housing Solutions and Community at Heart.

A key theme of the charter is making sure that people understand that committing a Hate Crime is a criminal offence. It can also lead to legal action and the possible loss of tenancy and the home you live in.

The vision is that all tenants of homes managed by the Landlords Forum partners will be able to live in harmony with their neighbours, free from all forms of harassment and Hate Crime. The Landlords Forum partner agencies have set up clear values and principles to make this vision a reality.

This is being done by working in partnership with the Police, Education Action Challenging Homophobia (EACH) and Support Against Racist Incidents (SARI). The Landlords Forum would like to encourage all victims of hate crime to contact their landlord for help, advice and support.

Tony Hicks, Chair of Housing Solutions, noted,

“This document shows that working together we can prevent and tackle hate crime in the area and help people feel safer in their community.”

If you would like to find out more information about the Hate Crime Charter, please contact Terry Black, Neighbourhood Investment Co-ordinator for Sovereign Housing Association, on 0117 958 0180.
