Investing in neighbourhoods 

Investing in neighbourhoods is an essential part of our role as an affordable housing provider.  As well as our bricks and mortar regeneration projects, we focus considerable attention on building and maintaining communities and surroundings where people want to live.

Our approach to managing homes is to work within neighbourhoods to maximise the benefit of local housing surgeries, increase resident involvement through regular estate walkabouts, identify neighbourhood issues where we can assist with resources or staff time, and positively engage with partners and stakeholders in wider initiatives.

Our approach

Our approach to neighbourhood investment has been led by working with residents to find out what their needs and aspirations are, as well as by following government guidelines to deliver change.  We aim to deliver three key objectives:

• Financial inclusion: explore with our residents and strategic partners how we can help residents become involved in the economic growth and success of their local areas.

• Neighbourhood environment: explore with our residents and strategic partners how we can better understand the contribution we make to improving the quality of life through environmental improvements.

• Lead and contribute to a range of initiatives that will raise confidence in the safety of neighbourhoods and help to create a sense of well-being.

We are working hard to deliver these objectives and surpass Government requirements by putting various neighbourhood investment schemes and initiatives in place. These include:

• Community activities

• Construction Links programme

• Neighbourhood wardens

• Estate inspections

• Housing surgeries

• Environmental services

• Tackling anti-social behaviour

• Identifying priority estates

• Good neighbour agreements

• Improving flats programme

Being iN business for neighbourhoods

As part of our ongoing commitment to neighbourhood investment, we have signed up to a group of housing associations within the Housing Federation who are all 'iN business for neighbourhoods'.

iN business for neighbourhoods aims to transform the performance of housing associations and challenge negative perceptions of the affordable housing.
