Housing options

Our 30,000 homes are spread across 71 local authorities in the south and south west of England, which means we have thousands of residents with a very diverse range of housing needs.

With more people than ever looking to us for support, we have responded to changes in the housing market, in the funding environment, and in the communities we serve. We need to ensure that we can meet our development targets to build houses for people in social need, as well as help those seeking a way onto the property ladder via a low-cost home ownership scheme.

Recent changes to the economy mean that  as well as building, have increased our housing stock through the acquisition of developers’ market homes, with the help of HCA funding. In addition, we have responded to changes in the Government-funded low-cost home ownership scheme, and have a number of Rent-to-Homebuy properties available. Providing people with brand new homes at discounted rents, with an option to buy later, is an excellent response to the current difficulty in obtaining mortgage finance.

What are the options?

Across the Sovereign Group we offer a wide range of housing options to meet the diverse and changing needs of our residents and communities, including:

  • choice-based lettings
  • sheltered and supported housing
  • transfer options
  • the incentive to move scheme
  • mutual exchange and swap options, and
  • various options to own your own home.

When homes become available, we will always offer them to those with the most points or highest level of need on the housing register, and we will always give priority to people who:

  • are homeless

  • are about to become homeless

  • live in poor housing conditions, or

  • need to move for medical or welfare reasons.
