The West Berkshire Neighbourhood Wardens, funded by Sovereign South + West, West Berkshire Council, and Tilehurst, Holybrook, Purley on Thames and Theale Parish Councils, are always looking for ways to help out in the community, especially at this festive time of year.

This year West Berkshire Warden Jenni Nash took on the challenge of involving members of her team in as many charity events as possible, raising money for good causes, and raising the profile of the wardens in the process.

There have been some notable achievements this year, which have included the following: abseiling down the side of building in Reading; taking part in a 13 mile midnight walk around Basingstoke; and on Sunday 29 of November four of the wardens joined around 150 other runners in the Newbury "Santa Jog", which was in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

The team, comprising of Peter Evans, Shirley Wilson, Jenni Nash, and their manager Allan McIntyre, completed 6 laps of Newbury's Victoria Park dressed from head to toe in Santa outfits! Fortunately the weather was dry and sunny, and the team managed to raise a total of £173 for the British Heart Foundation.

This year’s activities are just a taste of things to come, and Jenni is looking forward to the team taking part in many more charitable events during 2010. She noted, “Everything we’ve done this year have been really good fun and has brought us together as a team, whilst helping raise money for worthwhile causes along the way. Let’s hope for more of the same in 2010!”
