Neighbourhood improvement events aim to take the strain out of home repairs

Date: 22 June 2009

Sovereign Housing Association is running a series of neighbourhood improvement events in Portishead, Newbury, Exeter and Plymouth this summer to give residents the chance to meet Property Services, Resident Involvement and Housing teams. Residents will also have the chance to get repairs carried out in their homes, enjoy a local BBQ with neighbours and have an ideal opportunity to get rid of any unwanted household items.

The Newbury feedback event took place from 15-22 June in the northern part of the Turnpike Estate, Creswell Road, Newbury. Sovereign surveyors had already gone out the week before and assessed homes to establish if any external repairs were needed. On the Monday morning, Sovereign staff went out and talked to residents on their own doorsteps to see how they felt about their homes and the repairs service they receive from Sovereign. There was also the opportunity for residents to have repairs done there on the spot. The Monday was then rounded off with a BBQ for local residents in the evening.

On the following Tuesday and Wednesday Sovereign staff went back to talk to people who had been unavailable on the Monday, offering them extra flexibility. Then to finish things off skips were provided on Thursday to allow people to have a summer clean out.

Penny Riley, Resident Involvement Officer for Sovereign Housing Association, commented, “These neighbourhood improvement weeks are a great way of allowing people to get hassle free repairs done to their homes, meet the team and of course their neighbours. It also encourages people to have an extra clean out of unwanted items.”
