Sovereign Twynham renews agreement with local council to provide more homes for local people

Christchurch

Date: 09 February 2010

Sovereign Twynham

Sovereign Twynham has recently renewed its Private Sector Leasing (PSL) agreement with Christchurch Borough Council.  It will operate alongside the existing Housing Association Leasing Scheme that Sovereign Twynham has with New Forest District Council.  Through these agreements Sovereign Twynham, in partnership with the two local authorities, manages homes on behalf of private owners to provide short-term accommodation for local people.

Sovereign Twynham has nearly 15 years experience in running its Private Sector Leasing scheme, and during this time has provided accommodation for hundreds of families.  The new agreement will allow them to carry on the good work already done by the Private Sector Leasing team in the Christchurch area and means that they can continue to help local people who unavoidably find themselves without a home.

The PSL agreement also helps local owners who may be unsure what to do with an empty property.  By taking advantage of this agreement between local councils and Sovereign Tywnham, they can now guarantee a return on their property, with the added bonus of Sovereign Twynham dealing with all management aspects of the property as well.

Councillor Sue Spittle, portfolio holder for Improving Prospects for Housing at Christchurch Borough Council, said, “We are pleased to be working with Sovereign Twynham to bring empty properties back into use to help people in the Borough who find themselves homeless. The scheme is also a bonus for private landlords who will get an income and get their property managed into the bargain.”

Councillor Jill Cleary, Portfolio Holder for Housing at New Forest District Council says “The Housing Association Leasing Scheme is vitally important to the Council as it provides good quality temporary accommodation for those in urgent Housing Need.”

Jan Daley-Brown, Senior Leasing Officer for Sovereign Twynham, noted, “The Private Sector Leasing agreement is really important for local housing, helping both us and our two local councils.  We currently lease over 100 homes from private owners, who have managed to turn their empty property into a monthly rental income instead.”
