New Youth Centre to open as part of the Greater Greenham Project

New Youth Centre

Date: 26 January 2009

Sovereign South+West

The Greater Greenham Project (covering The Nightingales and Pigeons Farm areas) was launched three months ago to aim to improve the quality of life for all residents in the area. So far, the initiative, set up by the West Berkshire Partnership and being co-ordinated by Sovereign South+West, has started to make a real difference.

A key part of The Greater Greenham Project is bringing more activities to young people in the area. As part of this the Community Youth Project will be launching their new youth centre on Tuesday 2 February at the Greenham Community Centre.

New Youth and Community worker Jenny McIntyre is leading this new project which will give young people the chance to use 5 new PCs, learn how to DJ on the latest Pioneer CDJs, or just relax playing pool or table football. Jenny McIntyre noted, “I have enjoyed giving the community centre a makeover and it is now fully equipped to give people to go to and spend some time with their friends.”

Marcus Franks, Neighbourhood Investment Co-ordinator (East) for Sovereign South + West, noted, “When the Greater Greenham Project was launched back in October, it marked an exciting time for Sovereign. So far we have seen people really getting involved and this new Community Youth Project is another great example of this.
