Sovereign South+West has been working on different community initiatives in East Wichel over the last 12 months to help the new community develop and take shape.
The StoweAway received a grant from Sovereign last year and this year one of Sovereign’s key projects is to support the Little Stars, East Wichel toddler group which is aimed at helping young mothers who have recently moved to the area.
The Little Stars toddler group is the first community group to be formed by local people in East Wichel. It meets once a week on Wednesdays from 10am to 12.30pm, and is an ideal opportunity for new young mothers to offer each other advice and support as well as a chance for their children to play. With the support from Sovereign the Little Stars group will purchase equipment and will be holding a cooking workshop to promote healthy eating to local families. The group is also supported by the StoweAway.
Becky Rand, a Sovereign resident who has founded the group, noted, “I think that the new toddler group is really important as it will give young mums the chance to feel a real part of the community and they can also meet other young mums in the area.”
Terry Black, Neighbourhood Investment Coordinator for Sovereign South+West, noted, “Sovereign has been supporting different initiatives over the last year and this latest toddler group is an excellent example of how we want to provide an excellent support mechanisation for new young families moving into East Wichel.”
