Sovereign is backing a new report urging the government to rethink aspects of its Welfare Reform Bill. The report, entitled ‘The impact of welfare reform on housing’, has been produced by the Consortium of Associations in the South East (CASE), a grouping of nine major housing associations, including Sovereign.

The CASE paper, which has been sent to all MPs across southern England, aims to highlight the impact on their constituents and local businesses if the Welfare Reform Bill is approved. It outlines areas where perceived short-term savings are likely to be overshadowed by more complex problems in the longer-term. These include the impact of the proposed reforms on the future capacity to build new homes.

The report presents recommendations on how the government’s welfare reform objectives can be met without entailing long-term problems for residents and the housing sector.

The housing associations within CASE are Sovereign, The Guinness Partnership, London and Quadrant, Thames Valley Housing, Paradigm, Radian, The Hyde Group and West Kent.

You can see the report in full on the Moat website.
