Equality & Diversity

Elderely women

Housing associations play an important part in communities, making sure people have access to decent homes and neighbourhoods. The homes and services we provide can transform people's lives. This amount of influence brings with it a huge responsibility so our Corporate Values are a key element, setting out how we work in ways that reflect our role in people's lives.

Equality and Diversity is a key factor in fairness. The Group is dedicated to ensuring that all Group members treat the people around them appropriately and comply with relevant guidance and with the law.

We recently reviewed our Equality and Diversity strategy to make sure it is up to date and works with our Group structure. The new strategy has drawn on the strategies that were already in place around the Group - giving us a robust but flexible approach that will work for all of us.

Here are the strategy's key points:

  • An explanation of who may face discrimination at different times or in different settings.
  • The requirements we need to meet for these diversity groups, so we can design services that are effective for them.
  • Each Group Director or Managing Director is to be responsible for making sure that their staff meet these requirements.
  • A new Group Equalities Forum is to be set up and will be responsible for making sure our strategy is being properly implemented.

Around the Group, staff are now planning different projects and schemes to implement the strategy and these will be collected together into a single Action Plan.

You can also find more information about our Group-wide Disability Equality Scheme.

Ultimately, we want to make sure that equality and diversity becomes a core part of everything we do.
