Residents look at plans for their estateBarton Hill, BristolResidents share their views

This is a major regeneration scheme in the New Deal for Communities (NDC) area of Barton Hill, where we are developing 160 new homes in partnership with Bristol City Council and the "Community at Heart" partnership board.

Sovereign was selected with Solon HA in an open tender competition to provide a development consortium to undertake the regeneration of the area's housing. We were appointed jointly by the Council and the NDC Board, with close involvement from residents and other key agencies, including the Housing Corporation and the Government Office (GOSW). Our approach has been to involve all the relevant agencies and local stakeholders, and in particular the resident community, in planning both the design and future management arrangements for the new housing.

We have negotiated a Local Lettings Plan - the first within Bristol - and established a Landlords Forum to create consistent housing management practices in all social landlords operating across the area.

We have set up a Local Labour & Construction Training scheme to help local people access jobs created by the regeneration programme. We have also secured additional funding from CABE (Commission for Architecture & the Built Environment) to involve artists in the design of the new housing and surrounding environment. Click here for more on the public art aspects of the project.
